I originally posted in the College Discussion but since it doesn't show up on most people's general threads I moved it here. A mod can move it back if he/she choses.

So I'm moving on to College at the University of South Carolina this fall and am trying to find out what kind of opportunities I might have if I wanted to debate (I'm not sure that I want to yet). USC doesn't have an established debate program anymore (so nothing like PHC or other colleges). I'd assume there are some National Leagues that I could still participate in though. Any college debaters or alumni on here who could give me some hints? I'd love to try my hand at Parli, and a Policy league would interest me. I've seen there is a National Forensic Association and the NFL, but I'm having trouble figuring out how those actually work.

All I know is based on Liberty's program. They compete in CEDA, ADA, and NDT. That is team policy debate, but it is nothing like NCFCA/Stoa. It's speed debate, rather than the conversational style. Lots of theory, mostly judged by people who are familiar with debate.

It wasn't my thing and I never participated, but I know people who did. I don't think you could compete in those leagues without a school program. Hopefully someone else will know about other options.

I'd recommend NFA or NPDA.

Upside Down Debate. The book that teaches you the deeper why of debate, from the ground up.
