HSD Members,

Over the past couple weeks the forum leadership and at-large have been involved in a discussion regarding mature topics and their place at HSD. In an effort to create a safe environment, but one that is still meaningful to older users, the leadership have decided that it would be best to have a subforum where mature topics can be discussed with depth and privacy.

It is my pleasure to announce the creation of the This Forum is Not Yet Rated forum! To be able to see or post in this forum, users must be added to the forum by an administrator or moderator. It should be known that access to the forum is entirely up to the discretion of HSD leadership and participation in the forum's discussion is in no way a license to be abusive, vulgar, or obscene, though topics and posts that may be deemed too mature (read: explicit of or pertaining to adult topics) for the regular areas of HSD can be allowed in the NYR forum.

Due to the nature of topics discussed in the NYR forum, HSD leadership feel that an age limit is appropriate for the time being. It will be our general policy to only add users aged 17 and above, except in certain, unique cases permitting access by users aged 16.

The NYR thread will be primarily moderated by the following members:

ShaynePC
+X
Mr Glasses

At this point, NYR is populated by the previously locked threads (concerning contraception and sexuality). If you would like to be added to the NYR forum, please contact the primary NYR moderators or post in this thread.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Drew

Note: If you had participated in the threads currently in NYR and I knew you were 17 or older, I added you to the forum. If you were added and would prefer to be unadded, just let me know.

Is this forum intending to house topics pertaining same-sex marriage or the whether same-sex relationships are biblically moral?

Joseph. Interesting question. I'd argue yes, since they are involved in a discussion of sexuality, but then again such topics aren't necessarily graphic or mature, so I could be convinced otherwise. I think we will have to discuss that.

Hypothetical: SCOTUS's decision in Obergefell comes out in the next two weeks. Would a discussion post fall in CC or TFiNYR?

I am inclined to think that most discussion of the morality of homosexual marriage could occur in CC. However, if the topic were to move into content less related to biblical morality and, for whatever reason, more explicit, then it might end up in NYR.

We are still determining exactly what the universal standard would be, but for the time being I think we're probably in concurrence with Justice Stewart's/Alan Novak's "you know it when you see it" standard.

Re: Adding to NYR

At this point, only administrators can add users to any given forum, so please PM me if you'd like to be added. We find out how to give ShaynePC, +X, and Mr Glasses admin permissions to add users to NYR as soon as we can.

EDIT: The NYR moderators can add users to the subforum now. Contact them to be added.

In the giant "Forum Rules" header, what's up with this sentence?

There's no such option either in that forum or in the general forum at large. (Not that I actually want to disable the censor, but I'm just curious why this statement exists.)

I found what appears to be the option under UCP > Board Preferences > Display Options

This is correct.

EDIT: It actually works too. Question about this: are we allowed ro swear now? Because I've sworn before assuming it wasn't a big deal with the profanity filters. I got a pm saying not to swear. So I've just been writing [censored]. But the fact this option exists suggests that it's ok now...

Swearing rarely adds to the quality of the discussion, and is distasteful for many, so we generally discourage it. If you feel the need to swear, stop and think "is there a more eloquent and persuasive way to say this?"

But if you are going to swear, NYR is a bit more acceptable of a place. :)

I mean, I generally don't drop profanity around Christians anyway because I if what you just said (even if I disagree). Just wanted clarification. Thanks :)
