Before a tournament or debate round is there something that you do that gets you pumped up and in the zone???

I listen to "Another one bites the dust" by Queen, among other songs like
"this is why I'm hot" by Mims, and "Snap yo fingers" by Lil Jon.
Then I am ready to debate!

I watch Sweet Home Alabama in between rounds. Wink

Seriously, I listen to Enter Sandman by Metallica. It really gets my blood pumping.

"California" by Hawk Nelson, only we've changed the words...

That song will make me excited about a tournament like no other song.

That and I spam the tournament thread here, that is always fun.

How did you change the words? Debate theme?

Pretty much. My sister did it, and now it's our team theme song. We start singing the chorus every time we stop between here and Colorado. We even sold my mom on it!

(Note: I usually don't listen to that genre of music, but my sister does.)

One of my friends loves that song. She created this stupid dance to the chorus.

I like the original song. I don't think I would like this new "remixed" version. Wink

You wouldn't get it. We just put new words to it, words that are more debate themed, for us anyways.

I don't listen to music around debate tournaments. I really don't know why though. Between rounds I drink a lot of water and right before a round I try to get my adrenaline up and get in the "zone," so to speak. Sometimes I'll speed-read my 1AC right before the round to get my mouth warmed up.

Those of you who were at Region 4 regionals saw my luverly psych up routine. I pace {alot} and listen to music. I have different music for different occasions, see:

First thing in the morning - Jars of Clay, generally I listen to "Collide" over and over

Before debate - errr, nothing. I'm too busy acting like a nut and looking for postings

Before OO - Derek Webb

Before Imp - ...the sound of my own, beautiful voice

At night, while I'm sleeping - Andrea Bocelli.

I read a Harvard Economic Professor named N. Gregory Mankiw's blog to remind me that real people agree with me sometimes. Then I make a post on my blog to get me thinking.

Then I read the Daily Kos so I can laugh.

Then I read some David McCullough or Peggy Noonan to be reflective on history.

Then I watch 24 to chill.
